China vetoed the UN Security Council's draft resolution on Syria on October 5.
Greatly concerned about the developments in Syria, China calls on all parties there to cease violence, push the Syrian Government to honor its reform pledges, swiftly launch a Syria-led inclusive political process and vigorously support the mediation efforts of countries and organizations within this region. The draft resolution submitted by relevant countries to the UN Security Council wilfully pressures Syria and threatens to impose sanctions, which is not conducive to easing the situation in Syria. We hope that relevant actions by the UN Security Council will help ease tension in Syria, facilitate political dialogue so as to dissolve disputes and safeguard the peace and stability of the Middle East region.
