Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Liu Weimin's Remarks on the UN General Assembly's Adoption of Resolution on "Terrorist Attacks on Internationally Protected Persons"
2011-11-19 17:19

Q: The UN General Assembly has just adopted the Resolution on "Terrorist Attacks on Internationally Protected Persons". What is China's comment?

A: China abstained from voting on relevant draft resolution of the UN General Assembly. We oppose terrorism in all its manifestations and maintain that international law and basic norms governing international relations should be observed when it comes to state-to-state relations and the safety of diplomatic personnel should be duly protected.

Given that the case is highly complex and sensitive and the parties still have different opinions, any conclusion or action should be based on a comprehensive, impartial, objective and transparent investigation and clearly-established evidence. Before finding out the facts, all parties should be prudent without rushing to a conclusion and avoid actions that may complicate and deteriorate the situation. China hopes relevant countries continue to appropriately handle this issue through dialogue so as to jointly maintain peace and stability in the Gulf region of the Middle East.
