On May 25, 2016, Vice President Li Yuanchao met in Beijing with President Pranab Mukherjee of India. Both sides jointly attended the welcome reception held by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Indian Embassy in China.

Li Yuanchao said that China and India enjoy time-honored friendship. In recent years, China-India relations have entered into a new period of rapid development. In face of the new situation and new opportunities, China stands ready to work with India to jointly build a closer development partnership between the two countries in accordance with strategic plans made by leaders of both countries, and promote bilateral relations to develop in an in-depth, solid and forward manner, so as to achieve cooperative, inclusive and common development.

Pranab Mukherjee expressed that India is willing to strengthen cooperation in various fields with China and enhance the friendship between the two peoples.
