On January 26, 2023, Acting Consul General Shi Yuanqiang and Deputy Consul General Li Chunlin visited the site of the Monterey Park mass shooting and expressed condolences to the victims,among whom were Chinese citizens. Mr. Shi and his colleagues laid bouquets of flowers with grief, held a moment of silence for the victims and extended deep sympathy to the local Chinese community through the Chinese community leaders present.

Mr. Shi also took an interview on the spot. He said that the mass shooting was shocking and distressing, and offered condolences and sympathy to the victims and their families. Mr. Shi said that the resilience and unity showcased by the Chinese community is truly touching and the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles will continue to make every effort to carry out its duty of consular protection and assistance.
