On May 13, 2017, President Xi Jinping met at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with President Doris Leuthard of the Swiss Confederation, and welcomed Doris Leuthard to China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli was present.

Xi Jinping pointed that the relationship between China and Switzerland has been accelerated since the establishment of the innovative strategic partnership in 2016. During my state visit to Switzerland at the beginning of this year, we jointly initiated China-Switzerland Year of Tourism, and witnessed the signing of 10 cooperation documents covering innovation, free trade and culture. Both sides should make joint efforts to effectively implement all these political consensus and cooperation agreements, and transfer them into concrete results of bilateral cooperation. Both countries should maintain high-level exchanges, comprehensively promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields by taking innovation as a lead, conduct negotiations on upgrading the free trade agreement as soon as possible, enhance the alignment of Made in China 2025 and Switzerland's Industry 4.0 Strategy as well as strengthen cooperation in finance. China and Switzerland should jointly well manage the series activities of China-Switzerland Year of Tourism and reinforce cooperation in aviation, culture, winter sports and other fields.

Xi Jinping stressed that Switzerland is an active supporter and participator of the "Belt and Road" initiative. The "Belt and Road" construction opens up a broad space for bilateral cooperation. It is hoped that both sides pay more attention to the integration of development strategies through this forum and facilitate practical cooperation in major fields.

Doris Leuthard noted that President Xi Jinping's visit to Switzerland in this January was fairly successful. She and President Xi Jinping reached a great deal of consensus, especially the joint commencement of Switzerland-China Year of Tourism, which will vigorously promote bilateral exchanges in culture and economy. The two countries should well implement relevant consensus and advance cooperation in innovation, energy, finance, tourism and other fields. Appreciating the "Belt and Road" initiative, the Swiss side believes that the "Belt and Road" construction will facilitate more investment in countries along the route and promote people's well-being. The country is willing to actively participate in and make contribution to the "Belt and Road" construction.
